No One 03:30
and you just wanna lie down escape to the cool ground middle of the street middle of the day saw a man on a bike about to run somebody down but he turned in time my heart jumped for no reason for no one for no one gonna go home by yourself tonight let nobody hold you tight the night is wrong he’s out of sight with someone you don’t wanna know who you wish he wouldn’t follow home sure he saw you there alone but your heart jumped for no reason for no one for no one and you just wanna lie down escape to the cool ground middle of the street middle of the night rest on the shoulder of a damaged road signs up warning about a hole flashing lights tempt you on over gaps that could easily break your bones gonna keep awake untill the day push your puzzling hopes away shatter all this cryptic pain that never found a fist to blame keep awake to end the wait calm the ringing in your ears erase all your fears for no one for no one and you just wanna lie down when all seems fine when all seems fine your heart is burning for no one no one knows what it’s paid your heart is beating the war drum no one will come to its aid

The Key 03:19
There’s a key in the door and I know what it’s for and I’ve known all the time since you left it there and went inside There’s a dice in my hand that I don’t understand all the sides show your face why do I throw it again and again looking for change when my choice has been made I try to leave to chance what chance won’t put its hands on Time won’t tell Fate is blind I try to read it in the stars when it’s all over your face that there will always be only one key You have asked with your eyes after things I disguise I guess they show every time that I let you go I just want to follow but I’ll be late, I know how turning stones even now all this time that I spend, why when the treasure is already found I was sure it was lost but you were always around I try to leave to chance . . .

speak while you can hang your words on a string I see from afar your arguments trembling saying: this is new, this is what we ought to do you speak of a road but it’s worn and tried I read while I can writing on walls a tale that will drown soon as the rain falls asking you: is this story old or new it speaks of a world that sank and died it speaks of a blow struck from behind an icicle palace melted by sunlight sinking into silence make me no promises dear sinking into silence sing me no songs I won’t hear speak while you can build a palace of air lies with a view easy to see through you speak of a road but it’s worn and tried you speak of a tree but it’s hollow and dry you speak of a bridge but it’s loose on the sides sinking into silence... make me no promises dear I won’t hear (speak while you can) sinking into silence (speak while you can)

about

Being "no one" could imply an unwanted solitude (as on the title track). It could mean hiding safely in the shadows (as on the second track "The Key"), in an effort to become invulnerable which does not necessarily prevent one from getting hurt. Or it could point to bittersweet endings, when becoming no one to one another turns out to be inevitable and necessary (as on the final track "While You Can"). The three songs featured on 'No One' EP are each a meditation on the urgent need to be someone, for someone.

Marte Røyeng’s debut EP 'No One' is produced by acclaimed artist, musician and producer Thom Hell. It was recorded winter 2015 and spring 2016
in Fersk Lyd Studio with Giert Clausen.
